VoLTE

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) lets you make voice calls over a 4G or 5G data connection instead of legacy 2G/3G voice channels.

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE. It carries phone calls as digital data over a 4G (LTE) network, rather than using the older circuit-switched voice channel.

Why it matters

  • Better quality: HD Voice with wider audio range
  • Faster call setup: calls connect in under a second instead of 5-10s
  • Simultaneous voice + data: you can browse while on a call
  • Required for 3G/2G shutdown: as UK networks switch off legacy networks, VoLTE is becoming mandatory

Compatibility

Most phones from 2018 onwards support VoLTE. You'll usually find a toggle under Settings → Cellular → Voice & Data.

Fuse and VoLTE

Fuse supports VoLTE on all four UK networks — calls work the same way they did before, just at higher quality and over a more efficient data path.
